Overseas Special Interest Group - October - FULLY BOOKED

Wednesday, 18 Oct 2017, 13:30 - 18:00

Overview

Developing INGO approaches to assurance and internal audit

INGOs face a wide range of often complex and changing risks. Over time approaches to risk management have developed, and in recent times some INGOs have been considering the sources of evidence available to provide assurance within key strategic and operational areas, and the extent to which the levels of assurance gained are appropriate. Internal audit and other internal reviews and management processes are a vital source of evidence within the overall framework for assurance.

INGOs often operate in environments in which they are exposed to high levels of risk, for example physical security risks, and other risks such as fraud, and local compliance. Internal audits, management processes and other internal reviews are critical in both preventing and detecting these risks and investigating any issues that may arise.

We will hear from WaterAid, Plan International and BBC Media Action on different aspects of their approaches to assurance, both at organisational level and also with respect to specific risks. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions, and, for smaller organisations without dedicated audit functions, a chance to hear and learn from sector specialists.
