Charity Finance Group offers free treasury support service for charities

13th September 2017

Charity Finance Group has today launched a free email support service for charities, particularly small organisations, to ask questions or ask for guidance on treasury or cash management issues in their charities.

Most charities do not have access to in-house expertise on how to manage their cash funds or deal with issues relating to foreign exchange. This can lead to charities making poor decisions which can leave them counting the cost.

Charities will be able to email for support; CFG will then share experiences from its track record of working with some of the leading charities working overseas. CFG regularly convenes an expert group of treasurers to consider the challenges facing the sector. CFG also engages with government, regulators and funders to improve the operating environment for those charities.

The email support service will be open to all charities, including non-CFG members.

In 2011, CFG published with Stamp Out Poverty a practical guide on how to improve foreign exchange in charities, following estimates that charities were losing over £20m a year due to the wrong deals being made.

CFG will compile some of the more frequently asked questions via the email support service on its blog so that charities have a quick reference point for their queries on cash management and treasury.

Speaking about the service, Andrew O’Brien, Head of Policy and Engagement, Charity Finance Group, said:

“We have long recognised that there is a skills gap in the sector on treasury and cash management. It is still vitally important that charities invest in these skills and get the right support.

However, we hope that this email support service will help charities to meet some of their needs and ensure that they are able to maximise their resources as much as possible.”

More information is available on the CFG website.
